The Classroom

This week seems to be a real bloom of information on aspects of bass construction, frets, effects pedals, and what's going down with NAMM 2013.

Find out which one of our Thunder Row members will be attending NAMM 2013 to report on the lowdown events! She jumped in at the last minute and is bound to have a great time! Click HERE for the info!

As promised, we are re-posting some of our special LESSON CHARTS. Save 'em, print 'em, use 'em!

Digging around on the web, we've located a couple of valuable diagrams that help demonstrate the difference between the types of frets available for your bass guitar. Have a look HERE.

If you're not a high-end tech-head, buying an effect pedal might require a greater understanding of the functions of each type of box. Thunder Row found a great report online that outlines basic pedal functions. Read what we found HERE.

Frudua online provides a great resource for understanding aspects of bass guitar construction. Read what we found HERE.

And as long as we've labelled our post on the topic of classrooms, why not check out ROY VOGT'S TEACH ME BASS GUITAR? And don't forget to join THUNDER ROW. Whether you own the course, are thinking of buying, or just want to participate in our bass family, Thunder Row will surely become your fave place to hang. Thunder Row Rumbles Into The New Year

2013 is well underway, and Thunder Row has begun with a r-r-r-r-rumble! First off, Roy Vogt, instructor extraordinaire, was recently interviewed by Melbay.com. We've posted the video interview on the Row, so have a look!

Patrick has just added a TAB version of Lane's BLACK SHEEP lesson. If you plan on going into the music industry, or pursuing your dream of teaching bass, you might not want to use TABS (sight reading will definitely take you further into THOSE FIELDS), but if you're a person who just likes playing along to songs or with family and friends, TABS can be what gets you from here to there! I hear there's going to be two versions posted: one with notation and TABS, and one with notation only. At any rate, come on and HAVE A LOOK at the lesson!

We have just posted a video review of the Sonuus Wahoo bass effects system, done by Italian bassist (and good friend to Thunder Row), Alberto Rigoni. I tell you, when I saw this, I wanted one very badly! Didn't get it - more on that later - but the Wahoo certainly has a "drool factor" of nine or ten!  Have you seen Alberto's VIDEO?

And finally, we're going to be re-running our very popular CHART series. Ralph and the hard working crew at The Learning Dock's Interplanetary Headquarters have created an entire series of special charts for you to save or print.  These charts vary from chords to scales and each one has something you can use!  We start the series by bringing back two of the first in the series:

Many more to come!  Stay tuned!

Lane Baldwin's BLUES YOU CAN USE

Thunder Row proudly presents Lane Baldwin's BLUES YOU CAN USE.

Starting 07 January 2013, Lane will feature a new bass guitar lesson on the Thunder Row forums.

ABOUT LANE BALDWIN

Lane Baldwin is an internationally acclaimed bassist, singer and songwriter with over 40 years of touring and recording to his credit. DIG THE HOLE, his 2008 CD with DEEPER BLUES, has been called some of the best new Blues in decades. Bass icon Johnny B. Gayden (Albert Collins, et al) calls Lane “one of the best bassists in the world of Blues today, and a gifted storyteller.” In 2013, he will release his first solo CD, The View From Here, a major leap forward in Lane’s career. The Blues veteran has been teaching the fine art of the groove for more than thirty years, and continues to do so on BassLessonsHQ.com. A close friend of Roy Vogt for twenty-five years, Lane was instrumental in the launch of Teach Me Bass Guitar, Roy's highly acclaimed, self-paced DVD instruction course.

For more on Lane’s career, visit LaneBaldwin.com.

Lane is excited to be part of the new lessons featured on Thunder Row.

"I've known Roy for 25 years, and he’s been a great friend and important mentor.  I was thrilled to be part of the launch of Teach Me Bass Guitar, and am seriously honored that I've been invited to create a lesson series for Thunder Row.
"I love the Blues! I've spent years promoting the genre and teaching aspiring bassist the Art of the Groove. The Blues You Can Use lesson series is a major step forward for me."

The first lesson is already up!  It features "Black Sheep", one of the songs from "Dig The Hole".

Check out the lesson here on THUNDER ROW, and stay tuned for more to come!

"Dig The Hole" by Deeper Blues is available on Lane's Website, and CD Baby. Get your copy today!
